There were a few moments at this year’s Grammy Awards that left our jaws on the floor—  No really! Moments so good that we had to make you relive the moment with us as apart of our #LLFBF (LORENLOROSA.COM Flash Back Friday). This week we chose to remember the momentous musical statement of Kendrick Lamar’s anticipated 2016 grammy performance.

What left us and the 40 million other televised viewers so speechless? Well on top of being nominated for 11 Grammys and taking home 5,  (after a controversial lose to Macklemore), the conscious rapper accepted the award for “Best Rap Album of the Year” amongst a few others. But, it wasn't the awards he won that night that had us gasping for more! Partly because I think we have all been waiting for this deserving artist to be recognized by the likes of Grammy nominating committees, right?

So what did have us almost falling out of our seat.. anxious for more? Kendrick’s strong testament to, To Pimp a Butterfly, during his televised performance, which is currently still throughout headlines all over the world!

Kendrick debuted his thoughts on current racial/political happenings through explicit visuals throughout his performance of songs including, Blacker the Berry & Alright

Touching on the still alive topic of Racism against minorities, Kendrick opened the act handcuffed and shackled to his accompanying band, who then took their place behind bars — illustrating the generations of black males incarcerated. Kendrick opening words- “I am the biggest hypocrite of 2015”, lines from his single “Blacker the Berry” that sparked controversy last year as he highlighted that he too mourned for Trayvon Martin but like many others can find some responsibility for adding to the numbers of black on black crime here in America.

With prior controversy stirring from Beyonce’s performance at the 2016 Super bowl, not even a month later Kendrick Lamar chose to further pour into the pot!  Both performers chose to take the “Black Lives Matter” stance in front of worldwide audience.

Whats a better way to make a statement than in front of 25 million people Right?  Watch Kendricks  performance here:
